F-Pattern Layout

What is F-Pattern Layout?

F-Pattern Layout is a design approach based on eye-tracking studies showing that users typically scan content-heavy pages in an F-shaped pattern: horizontally across the top, down the left side, then across again.

The F-Pattern Layout acknowledges that users: * Read the first line thoroughly (top of the F) * Scan down the left side looking for keywords * Occasionally read across when something catches their interest * Rarely read to the right edge of text-heavy content This pattern is most common on content-rich pages like blog posts or documentation. Understanding the F-Pattern helps designers place important elements where users naturally look. * Content Hierarchy: Ensures critical information appears in high-attention zones. * Scannability: Improves content consumption by aligning with natural reading patterns. * Conversion Optimization: Places CTAs and key messages in prime visual areas. "Flowtrix applies F-Pattern principles to content-heavy pages, using bold headings, bullet points, and strategic placement of key information along the left side. This approach ensures important messages aren't missed and improves overall content engagement."
