What is a HEX Code?
A HEX (Hexadecimal) Code is a six-digit alphanumeric combination used in web design and development to specify colors precisely on a screen. Based on the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) color model, the code starts with a hashtag (#) followed by three pairs of characters (ranging from 00 to FF) that dictate the intensity of red, green, and blue light mixed together to create the final color (e.g., #FFFFFF is pure white, #000000 is pure black).
Why HEX Codes Matter in Brand Identity and Handoff?
Precision is everything in enterprise branding. Approximating a color visually results in inconsistent, unprofessional user experiences.
- Absolute Brand Consistency: A SaaS company's "brand blue" isn't just "blue"—it is specifically #1A56DB. Using HEX codes ensures this exact shade renders identically on the website, the software dashboard, and digital ads.
- Developer Translation: Browsers understand HEX codes perfectly. They are the universal language that translates a designer's Figma mockup into the CSS code that styles the live website.
- Contrast Compliance: Accessibility tools require exact HEX codes to mathematically calculate Contrast Ratios, ensuring the text meets legal WCAG readability standards.
- Design Systems: In modern development, HEX codes are stored as Color Variables (Tokens). This allows developers to apply #1A56DB universally by simply referencing the variable Brand-Primary.
Example from Flowtrix Projects
During our Figma-to-Webflow handoff process, Flowtrix leaves nothing to chance. We codify the client's Brand Guidelines directly into Webflow's native Variables panel using strict HEX codes. If a B2B client's brand uses a specific neon green (#00FF88) for their primary CTAs, our system ensures that every button, text link, and interaction perfectly matches that exact mathematical color.
